Moving an instance volume to another LUN
Review the following considerations before you begin to move a volume:
The target LUN must have enough available space for the volume. Only the LUNs that can hold the volume appear in the target LUN list.
A locked LUN cannot be a target and does not appear in the list. Unlock the LUN first if you want to move a volume onto it.
See About locking LUNs.
Confirm that the appliance hardware status is healthy before you start the move. Use the hardware monitoring commands in the Flex Appliance Shell.
Review the volumes on the selected LUN because volumes that share a LUN can affect each other's performance.
You cannot start a move while another instance operation such as a resize or an upgrade is in progress.
You can run multiple volume moves at the same time, as long as each move operation has a different target LUN.
If multiperson authorization (MPA) is configured for storage move operations, starting or canceling a move requires approval before it runs.
If a move does not complete, the volume remains on its original LUN. You can start the move again.
Use the following procedure to move an application instance volume from its current LUN to another LUN on the appliance.
Note:
If you want to stop the instance during the move, navigate to . Select the instance and click before you perform this procedure.
To move an instance volume to another LUN
- Sign in to the Flex Appliance Console. Navigate to the Storage page and then click the Volume Movement tab.
- Under Source LUN, select the LUN that currently holds the volume. Then, under Select Volume to Move, select the volume. The Selected Volume panel shows the name and the size of the volume, the LUN and the enclosure that it is on, and the application instance that owns it with its current state.
If you reached this tab by selecting a volume and clicking Move on the Storage Allocation tab, the source LUN and the volume are already selected, and you can continue to step 3.
- Under Target LUN, select the LUN that you want to move the volume to. Only the LUNs that have enough available space and that are not locked are listed. If no LUNs are listed, free up space on a LUN, add storage to the appliance, or unlock a LUN, and then try again. The tab shows the capacity and the available space of the LUN that you select, and lists the volumes that are already on it under Existing Volumes on Target LUN.
See Unlocking a LUN.
- Click Move. In the Move Volume window, review the details of the volume and of the target LUN, and the guidelines that the window lists, and then click Confirm.
- Monitor the progress in the Activity Monitor. When the move is complete, you can see the volume under its new LUN on the Storage Allocation tab.
