Viewing instance storage allocation across LUNs
Flex Appliance stores the data for your application instances in volumes, and places those volumes on the LUNs that back the appliance storage. Flex Appliance selects the LUNs for you when you create an instance or resize its storage.
The tab on the page shows the result of those decisions. It presents the appliance storage as a hierarchy that you can expand, so that you can see the LUNs on the appliance, how much of each LUN is allocated, and which instance volumes are on which LUN.
Any account with the observer role or higher can view the storage allocation.
Use the tab in the following situations:
Before you create an instance or resize its storage, to see how much space each LUN has left.
To find out whether volumes that belong to more than one instance are sharing a LUN. Volumes that share a LUN can affect each other's performance.
To decide whether a volume should have a LUN of its own, for example because you expect it to grow.
To choose a target LUN before you move a volume.
When you investigate a storage performance problem, to determine which instances share the same LUN.
When you plan capacity, to identify the LUNs that are heavily allocated and those that still have capacity available.
To change which LUN an existing volume is on, use the tab on the same page.
See About moving instance volumes between LUNs.
To see read and write activity for the same LUNs and volumes rather than how they are allocated, use the Storage page's tab.
