Resizing instance storage
Use the following procedure to change the storage allocations on an existing application instance in Flex Appliance.
Note:
If you have configured remote replication, you can only resize the active instance. The replica instance is automatically resized to match when you resume replication after the resize. Make sure that the paired appliance has enough available storage to resize the replica. If it does not, you cannot resume replication until you have freed up or added the required storage.
Note:
The maximum size you can allocate to an MSDP volume depends on the appliance model, its drive capacity, and the MSDP pool limits in NetBackup. On a 5372 appliance with 20-TB drives, an MSDP pool of up to 2.4 PiB is supported. See About MSDP capacity support and hardware requirements section in the NetBackup Deduplication Guide.
To resize the instance storage
- From the System topology page of the Flex Appliance Console, navigate to the Application instances section.
- Locate the instance that you want to modify. If it is running, click Actions > Stop.
- If the instance has a replica, check the Data status from the Remote replication page and make sure that it shows a status of Consistent. If it does not, wait for it to become consistent and then return to the Application instances section of the System topology page.
- Click Actions > Resize storage.
- Select the volume that you want to resize. Then enter the new allocation and click Resize.
- Wait for the resize operation to complete. You can monitor the progress in the Activity Monitor, which is accessible from the left pane of the Flex Appliance Console.
When the resize is complete, you can view the new storage allocations by clicking on the instance name under System topology > Application instances.
- If the instance has a replica, resume replication.
You can see how much of each LUN is already allocated before you resize.
See Viewing instance storage allocation across LUNs.
If you want to change which LUN an existing volume is on rather than change its size, you can move the volume instead.
See About moving instance volumes between LUNs.
If less storage is available than you expect, check whether any LUNs are locked. A locked LUN is excluded from the available storage. However, a volume that is already on a locked LUN can still grow within that LUN.
See About locking LUNs.
