Backups go directly to a Cloud Catalyst storage server
In this scenario, the NetBackup environment does not use an MSDP storage server; it contains only a Cloud Catalyst storage server. The Cloud Catalyst storage server must back up, deduplicate, and upload the data to cloud storage.
This scenario is not the preferred Cloud Catalyst use case. This scenario may be a good solution for some users depending on the size of the environment, the desired backup window, and other factors. However, it is expected that most users get better results from the preferred use case.
Note the following disadvantages to backing up directly to the Cloud Catalyst storage server:
Since the data needs to be uploaded to the cloud before a job can be considered complete, the job may not complete within the backup window.
If a restore is required, the data may no longer be in the local cache. If the data has been uploaded to the cloud, the restore may be slow and expensive.
Client Direct is not supported. To review the limitations, See Cloud Catalyst requirements and limitations.
