Cloud Catalyst requirements and limitations
The Cloud Catalyst storage server is a dedicated media server for MSDP deduplicated cloud storage. The media server must be either a NetBackup appliance or a Linux media server, as described in Table: The types of media servers that can be used as Cloud Catalyst storage servers.
Table: The types of media servers that can be used as Cloud Catalyst storage servers
| Host | Version |
|---|---|
|
NetBackup appliance |
Veritas NetBackup Cloud Catalyst Appliance |
|
NetBackup media server |
Red Hat Enterprise Linux, 7.3 or later NetBackup 8.1 or later See Configuring a Linux media server as a Cloud Catalyst storage server. |
The Cloud Catalyst storage server can work with a proxy server when the NTLM authentication method is used. The proxy server must follow certain requirements to function inside of the NetBackup system. The following items are required only when the NTLM authentication method is used. When the BASIC authentication method or NONE is selected, there is no such requirement.
Requirements for a proxy server:
The proxy server must support both NTLMv1 and NTLMv2.
Cloud Catalyst is dependent on Classic Cloud Connector to get the list of buckets.
The Classic Cloud Connector only supports NTLMv1, and not NTLMv2.
Cloud Catalyst only supports NTLMv2.
Note:
A Cloud Catalyst storage server is supported for Auto Image Replication (A.I.R.) and Target A.I.R. as the source and the target from NetBackup 8.3.0.1 or later.
NetBackup Cloud Catalyst recognizes nearly all other MSDP features and capabilities.
See the NetBackup compatibility lists for updated information on supported cloud vendors and feature support:

The following are current exclusions or limitations:
Support limitations as listed in the NetBackup Cloud Administrator's Guide:
The NetBackup media servers that you use as Cloud Catalyst storage servers must be the same NetBackup version as the master server.
Load balancing for Cloud Catalyst storage servers or Cloud Catalyst appliances is supported. See the following topic for configuration considerations.
See Configuring source control or target control optimized duplication for Cloud Catalyst.
OpsCenter cannot report on the data that Cloud Catalyst storage servers upload to the cloud.
A single media server cannot be both an MSDP storage server and a Cloud Catalyst storage server.
A Cloud Catalyst storage server is supported as the target for A.I.R. when the storage server is selected from the drop-down list of the trusted master server.
NetBackup Client Direct deduplication is supported in a Cloud Catalyst duplication to cloud scenario. However, Client Direct deduplication is not supported in a scenario where the backup is uploaded directly to the cloud and no duplication is configured.
Direct backup to Cloud Catalyst using the accelerator option is not supported when Amazon S3 Glacier or Amazon S3 Glacier Deep Archive storage classes are used. Backup to an MSDP with accelerator and then optimized duplication to Cloud Catalyst is supported.
NetBackup clients must be on version 8.3.0.1 or later to support Client Direct enabled backups to the Cloud Catalyst media server.
