Using NetBackup Cloud Catalyst to upload deduplicated data to the cloud
NetBackup Cloud Catalyst uses MSDP deduplication technology to upload deduplicated data to the cloud. The data is uploaded by a Cloud Catalyst storage server, which first stores data in a local cache before uploading it to cloud storage. This cloud storage server is a dedicated host that can be either a NetBackup appliance or a media server configured for NetBackup Cloud Catalyst.

This is the preferred use case because it uses the Cloud Catalyst storage server as a target for secondary copies. These copies usually have a longer retention and are uploaded to the cloud.

While this configuration is supported, it is not the preferred use case. In this use case, the Cloud Catalyst storage server is required to back up, deduplicate, and upload the data to cloud storage.
