Recovering the MSDP Catalog from a backup
If you need to import images from the deduplication storage server, do not use the automated recovery process. For example, if you have already restored the NetBackup primary server catalog but have not imported images from this storage server, you must follow the manual recovery steps. Using the automated process in this scenario will result in no images available for import after catalog recovery.
The NetBackup drcontrol utility offers an automated option to recover the MSDP catalog from the most recent FULL backup and all subsequent INCR backups. For recovery from a specific date range, refer to the documentation for the bprestore command.
To recover the MSDP Catalog from a backup
- Run the drcontrol utility on the MSDP storage server:
UNIX: /usr/openv/pdde/pdcr/bin/drcontrol --auto_recover_DR --policy policy_name [-client client_name]
Windows: install_path\Veritas\pdde\drcontrol --auto_recover_DR --policy policy_name [-client client_name]
Specify the client_name if the value returned by bpgetconfig CLIENT_NAME differs from the backup image client name. This is typically required if hostnames or domain names were not used consistently.
- Monitor the command output for progress messages and status codes.
- After completion, the utility displays the path to the log file for review.
