NetBackup™ Status Codes Reference Guide

NetBackup status code: 9896

Message: Failed to add NetBackup Snapshot Manager due to certificate generation failure.

Explanation: Certificate generation can fail due to various reasons.

Examples of certificate generation failure:

  • The Snapshot Manager that is located in the cloud may be unable to connect with NetBackup located on-premises inside a firewall.

  • Primary server and Snapshot Manager containers are not able to resolve DNS for the primary server.

  • The clock times for Snapshot Manager and the NetBackup server are not synchronized so the generated certificates are not valid.

  • Determine if the Snapshot Manager host name is already registered as a media server.

Recommended Action: Perform one or more of the following actions, depending upon the error you see:

  • Review the NetBackup nbemm logs to identify the exact error.

  • Review your network connectivity with Snapshot Manager

  • Resolve network issues if any, using netstat or a similar network diagnosis tool.

  • Determine if nbcertcmdtool is able to connect to the web service running on the NetBackup primary server to generate the NetBackup certificates.

  • Use the ntpdate command to synchronize clock times for the NetBackup primary server and the Snapshot Manager.

  • Update the DNS entries with Docker and host entries for the Snapshot Manager. Update the /cloudpoint/openv/etc/hosts file with the DNS entries. Use different network cards, IP addresses, or host names for registering the co-located media server and the Snapshot Manager. Also, if the media server and the Snapshot Manager are co-located, and the media server uses port 443, then the Snapshot Manager must use a custom SSL port.
