Prerequisites for recovering physical machines using Resiliency Platform Data Mover
Before you run the wizard to configure disaster recovery protection for a resiliency group consisting of physical machines to an on-premises data center using Resiliency Platform Data Mover, ensure that you have met the following prerequisites.
Each physical machine must have an additional hard disk of size 1 GB or more to be used for replication block tracking (RBT).
The RBT disk should not be a shared disk.
If you add new disks, ensure that they are visible from the host operating system.
If a physical machine has more than one ethernet adapter, then all of them should have static IP configuration.
All the disks must be connected directly to the physical machine or through SAN storage.
If there is a cluster of ESXi servers, ensure that all the ESXi servers of the cluster belong to the same VMware data center.
Though special characters are allowed in a password, you cannot use space in the password.
The Resiliency Platform Data Mover virtual appliances must be part of the same ESX clusters in the target data center.
Enough storage must be available on the recovery data center for provisioning the replicated physical machines.
Both the source and recovery (target) gateway must have external storage equivalent to 6GB for each physical machine protected by the gateway pair. For example, if a gateway pair supports 10 physical machines, the source and recovery (target) gateway must each have 60GB of external storage.
Ensure that correct values are defined for network of physical machines:
Gateway address
Network mask
Primary and Secondary DNS
DNS suffix
Ensure that equivalent network settings are defined for VMware ESXi servers:
vLAN / Portgroup
Target subnet
Gateway address
Network mask
Primary and Secondary DNS
DNS suffix
If one or more of these values are not defined, then after performing the migrate operation, the virtual machines may not get attached to the Infrastructure Management Server (IMS) in VMware datacenter.
Before creating the resiliency group for recovery to VMware, Open VM Tools should be pre-installed.
