Pre-Installation setup for HP 3PAR
In most cases, a single instance of the Data Collector can support any number of enterprise objects. However, each environment has its own unique deployment configuration requirements, so it is important to understand where the Data Collector software must be installed so that you can determine how many Data Collectors must be installed and which servers are best suited for the deployment.
Complete the following steps before you configure an HP 3PAR data collector policy that uses SSH key based authentication. SSH key based authentication is required for HPE Alletra Storage MP B10000 series arrays running ArcusOS 10.6.0 and later, because the array default for PasswordAuthentication changed to no in that release. SSH keys are also accepted by earlier HPE 3PAR and HPE Alletra firmware, so the same key can be used before and after an array upgrade.
To set up SSH key based authentication
- On the Data Collector server, generate an SSH key pair for the operating system account that runs the Data Collector service.
- Store the private key in a directory on the Data Collector server that is readable only by the account that runs the Data Collector service.
- Register the public key against the HP 3PAR or HPE Alletra user account that the policy uses. Refer to the HPE Alletra Storage MP B10000 CLI reference for the SSH key command syntax that applies to your firmware version.
- Confirm that the array user account still has Browse rights.
- From the Data Collector server, open an SSH session to each array address by using the private key and confirm that the connection succeeds without a password prompt.
- In the Portal, set Authentication Type to SSH Key in the HP 3PAR data collector policy, and enter the private key file path and, if one is used, the passphrase.
Note:
Replace the key pair on the array and in the policy at the same time. If the public key is removed from the array, collection fails with an authentication error until a valid key or password is configured.
