Veritas NetBackup™ Logging Reference Guide

Logs to accompany problem reports for synthetic backups

To debug problems with synthetic backups, you must include a complete set of logs in the problem report and additional items. Send the following log types to Veritas Technical Support.

  • Log files that unified logging creates

See Gathering unified logs for NetBackup.

  • Log files that legacy logging creates

See Creating legacy log directories to accompany problem reports for synthetic backup.

  • Include the following additional items:

    Try file

The try file is located in the following directory:

    install_path/netbackup/db/jobs/trylogs/jobid.t

If the job ID of the synthetic backup job was 110, the try file is named 110.t.

    Policy attributes

Use the following command to capture the policy attributes:

    install_path/netbackup/bin/admincmd/bppllist
        policy_name -L

where policy_name is the name of the policy for which the synthetic backup job was run.

    List of storage units

Capture the list of storage units from the following command:

    install_path/netbackup/bin/admincmd/bpstulist -L
