Registering instances or availability replicas with an instance group
Instance groups provide the following benefits when you create SQL Server policies:
When you add an instance group to a policy, that single policy can back up many instances or availability replicas.
You can configure an instance group to automatically add newly discovered instances or replicas to the group, which are then registered on the fly.

All the instances or replicas in the group use the same credentials setting. If you select the setting , you only need to enter those credentials once.
In the Applications utility, you can easily see which policies protect which instance groups.
To create an instance group
- In the NetBackup Administration Console, in the left pane, expand NetBackup Management > Applications > Microsoft SQL Server.
- Right-click Instance Groups and select New Instance Group.
- Provide an Instance Group Name.
- Select the credentials you want to use.
This user account must have certain privileges. More information is available to help determine which option best applies for your environment.
