Performing an SAP offline backup with SAPDBA

The following procedure shows you how to perform an offline backup with SAPDBA.

To perform an offline backup with SAPDBA

  1. Verify that you have completely configured NetBackup, NetBackup for SAP, and the SAP tools.

  2. Verify that you are user sapadm.
  3. Run the stopsap R3 command to stop SAP.
  4. Start sapdba.
  5. Type h to select the Backup database menu item.
  6. Type d to select Objects for backup.
  7. Type g and type the name of the object to back up.

    For example: PSAPUSER1D.

  8. Type q to go back to the previous menu.

    The information that is returned indicates the following:

    • The backup device type is external backup tool (backint).

    • The backup type is offline_force.

    • Tablespace is PSAPUSER1D.

  9. Type S to start the backup.
