Veritas NetBackup™ Administrator's Guide, Volume II

Setting the licensing type for scheduled reports

After install or upgrade, or if you change the license type, you must set the license type for a scheduled run of the nbdeployutil utility. Use the bpsetconfig command to set a license type. You must set the license type so that the nbdeployutil can generate a JSON file that NetBackup telemetry uses to send usage information to Usage Insights.

The following license types are available:

  • NETBACKUP_PLATFORM_BASE_COMPLETE_EDITION

  • NETBACKUP_PLATFORM_BASE_LIMITED_EDITION

  • NETBACKUP_PLATFORM_BASE_BIG_DATA_WORKLOAD_EDITION

  • NETBACKUP_PLATFORM_BASE_NDMP_EDITION

  • NETBACKUP_PLATFORM_BASE_COMPLETE_EDITION_FLEX

  • NETBACKUP_ENTERPRISE_VIRTUAL_CLIENT_EDITION

  • NETBACKUP_TRADITIONAL_LICENSING_MODEL_EDITION

For NetBackup 8.3 and later, you have to set the licensing type using NETBACKUP_PLATFORM_BASE_COMPLETE_EDITION_FLEX to avail the benefit of Flexible licensing. For NetBackup 8.2 and earlier, Flexible licensing is available when you set Complete Edition as the license type using NETBACKUP_PLATFORM_BASE_COMPLETE_EDITION.

If you do not set a licensing type, the following type is selected: NETBACKUP_PLATFORM_BASE_COMPLETE_EDITION

For more information about Flexible licensing, refer to the NetBackup Licensing Guide.

The following procedure shows how to set FLEX as the license type:

  • Run the bpsetconfig command, from the following location:

    • On Windows: install_path\NetBackup\bin\admincmd

    • On UNIX: /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd

    For example, if you want to set FLEX as the license type:

    • On Windows:

      bpsetconfig.exe

      bpsetconfig>

      NETBACKUP_PLATFORM_BASE_COMPLETE_EDITION_FLEX=1

      bpsetconfig>^Z

    • On UNIX:

      ./bpsetconfig

      bpsetconfig>

      NETBACKUP_PLATFORM_BASE_COMPLETE_EDITION_FLEX=1

      bpsetconfig>^D

Note:

In a multi-master scenario, it is recommended that the proxy servers always use the NetBackup 8.3 version to get the maximum benefit of flexible licensing.

If you have NetBackup 8.3 and earlier clients, ensure that you install the client-side Emergency Engineering Binary (EEB) from the Veritas Support site to get the enhanced benefit of flexible licensing. You can also see the Veritas Operations Readiness Tools (SORT) website and refer to the NetBackup Emergency Engineering Binary Guide.
