Backups go directly to a CloudCatalyst storage server
In this scenario, the NetBackup environment does not use an MSDP storage server; it contains only a CloudCatalyst storage server. The CloudCatalyst storage server must back up, deduplicate, and upload the data to cloud storage.
This is not the preferred CloudCatalyst use case. This may be a good solution for some users depending on the size of the environment, the desired backup window, and other factors, but Veritas expects that most users will get better results from the preferred use case.
Note the following disadvantages to backing up directly to the CloudCatalyst storage server:
Since the data needs to be uploaded to the cloud before a job can be considered complete, the job may not complete within the backup window.
If a restore is required, the data may no longer be in the local cache. If the data has been uploaded to the cloud, the restore may be slow and expensive.
