New MSDP features in NetBackup 8.1
In the 8.1 release, NetBackup CloudCatalyst harnesses Media Server Deduplication Pool (MSDP) technology to upload deduplicated data to the cloud. By deduplicating the data, customers realize a cost savings both when sending, and then when storing, the data in the cloud.
MSDP deduplication to the cloud recognizes nearly all other MSDP features and capabilities, including: Accelerator, stream handlers, fingerprinting media servers, throttling, MSDP-based encryption, compression, and reporting.
Client-side deduplication is supported in environments where client data is first backed up to an MSDP storage server and then duplicated to a CloudCatalyst storage server. Client-side deduplication is not supported in environments where client data is backed up directly to the CloudCatalyst storage server.
