Using NetBackup CloudCatalyst to upload deduplicated data to the cloud
NetBackup CloudCatalyst uses MSDP deduplication technology to upload deduplicated data to the cloud. The data is uploaded by a CloudCatalyst storage server, which first stores data in a local cache before uploading it to cloud storage. This cloud storage server is a dedicated host that can be either a NetBackup appliance or a media server configured for NetBackup CloudCatalyst.

This is the preferred use case because it uses the CloudCatalyst storage server as a target for secondary copies. These copies usually have a longer retention and are uploaded to the cloud.

While this configuration is supported, it is not the preferred use case. In this use case, the CloudCatalyst storage server is required to back up, deduplicate, and upload the data to cloud storage.
