Adding filegroups or files to the backup selections list
This topic describes how to browse for the filegroups or the files that you want to add to the backup selections list.
If you select specific databases and specific filegroups or files in a backup policy, NetBackup reports any unsuccessful filegroup or file backups differently than if you select an entire instance (DATABASE $ALL). Consider the following scenarios:
Scenario 1 - For
SQLINSTANCE1(DATABASE $ALLor all the databases), back up the filegroupsFG1,FG2, andFG3. If NetBackup cannot back upFG1,FG2, orFG3, NetBackup skips the backup of the filegroup for that database. The parent job completes with a status 0.Scenario 2 - For
DATABASEAandDATABASECinSQLINSTANCE1, back up the filegroupsFG1,FG2, andFG3. If NetBackup cannot back up any of these filegroups forDATABASEAorDATABASEC, the parent job completes with a status 2. The job details indicate that one or more of the filegroups that you selected were not backed up.
To add filegroups or files to the backup selections list
- Open the policy you want to edit or create a new policy.
- Select Filegroups or Files.
- Click Browse.
- In the left pane, select an instance to view the filegroups or files that it contains.
- In the right pane select the filegroups or files.
- Click OK to add the filegroups or files that you selected to the backup selections list.
Note:
When you add a filegroup or file to the backup selections list, NetBackup backs up that object for all databases in the policy that contain a filegroup or file with that name.
