About dynamic multi-streaming
Dynamic multi‑streaming improves backup performance for file system workloads protected by Standard policies. It enables NetBackup to dynamically distribute file system data across multiple parallel backup streams, ensuring optimal use of available resources throughout the backup operation.
Traditional static multi‑streaming assigns a fixed set of files to each stream. When a stream finishes early, its remaining capacity cannot be reused. Dynamic multi‑streaming continuously redistributes work across all active streams until the entire backup is complete.
Dynamic streaming creates multiple images for each backup selection. However, NetBackup presents only a single image in the catalog and during restore operations.
Maximizes throughput by keeping all backup streams active.
Reduces stream starvation and idle time.
Improves backup completion times for large file systems.
Simplifies configuration by eliminating the need for manual stream balancing.
