NetBackup™ Status Codes Reference Guide

NetBackup status code: 156

Message: Snapshot error encountered

Explanation: The following are possible causes of this status code:

  • The cloud provider credentials are not updated.

  • The cloud provider snapshot limit has been exceeded.

  • The Snapshot Manager server cannot be reached.

  • The universal share is on WORM enabled storage and Oracle Copilot backup with instant access is not supported on this storage option.

  • A new disk is attached to the host and the discovery of required assets is not completed.

  • Snapshots fail as the shadow copy storage because they are not in the respective driver.

  • Snapshot can fail with the error asset hierarchy is incomplete which can be due to ebsnvme-id returning /dev/sda when it should return sda for the boot disk.

  • Asset is deleted.

  • Asset is in an updating state. (Example: The VM is starting or stopping)

  • The snapshot fails with the error message: NetBackup Snapshot Manager API failed with return value: 9126

Recommended Action: Perform the following, as appropriate:

  • Ensure that the appropriate plug-in is configured in the web UI with the appropriate credentials. If the credentials are changed, ensure that they are updated from the web UI.

  • Ensure that the snapshot limit of the cloud provider is sufficient.

  • Check the ncfnbcs logs.

  • Select a different storage option for Oracle Copilot backup with instant access.

For more information, review the Oracle Copilot with instant access and universal share chapter in the NetBackup for Oracle Administrator's Guide.

  • The snapshot is successful when the asset is discovered in next discovery cycle. Or, the user can manually initiate a discovery when a new asset is added.

  • Restart the shadow copy service.

    • Right click on the C drive and then select Configure Shadow Copies….

    • Select C drive and click Settings.

    • Click schedule and then OK.

    • Select another drive and repeat the steps. If there are no other drives then click OK.

    • Refer to Configuring VSS to store shadow copies on the originating drive in the NetBackup Snapshot Manager Install and Upgrade Guide.

  • Unsubscribe the protection plan from the asset.

  • To discover the asset, start a manual discovery or it would be discovered in the next autodiscovery.

  • If the Snapshot fails with the error asset hierarchy is incomplete, refer to the following technical article:

    • CloudPoint snapshot is failing with "The host level snapshot of cannot be performed as asset hierarchy is incomplete" due to ebsnvme-id returning /dev/sda when it should just return sda for the boot disk.

  • See NetBackup status code: 9126.
