About storage device configuration

Reliable use of NetBackup depends on the proper configuration of your storage devices. To ensure reliable backups and restores, you must first install and configure devices to work with the operating system.

Before you install NetBackup, use the following guidelines to configure storage devices to work with the operating system:

New installations	Before you install NetBackup, install and configure your devices with the latest version of drivers.
Connections and settings	To prepare and connect new devices, perform the following tasks: Set the SCSI ID (target). Make sure that it is set it to an available SCSI ID. Physically attach your device to a compatible host bus adapter where that SCSI ID is available. Compatible means that both the device and the host bus adapter are of the same type. For example, single-ended, high-voltage differential, low voltage differential, or Fibre Channel.
Configuration	To configure storage devices to work with the operating system, refer to the following documentation: The instructions from the device and the operating system vendors. See the chapter in the NetBackup Device Configuration Guide that is appropriate for your operating system.
NetBackup installation	After all storage devices are installed, configured, and verified to work with the operating system, you can install NetBackup.

Warning:

An improperly configured device can lead to backup failures, data loss, or both.
