MSDP server evacuation recommendations
For a smooth and reliable evacuation process for MSDP disk volumes, follow these best practices:
Set the other disk volumes to read-only mode, which are planned to be evacuated later.
Before you start evacuation for one disk volume, set the other disk volumes which are planned to be evacuated soon in read-only mode. This step prevents data from being duplicated to those disk volumes.
Avoid changing volume modes during evacuation if possible.
If a change is necessary, pause the evacuation, make the change, then resume. This helps reduce temporary failures in ongoing duplication jobs.
If you have multiple disk volumes to evacuate, evacuate disk volumes one at a time if one of the following conditions is applicable:
The MVG server has limited resources (For example, CPU, memory).
The evacuation backlog is usually small. Once the evacuation is complete and the disk volume is removed from the MVG volume, the backlog is archived on the MVG server.
If required, you can manually delete the archived evacuation backlog from the MVG server, which is located at:
<storage>/mvg/cache/evac/<mvg-volume-dsid>/<msdp-server-of-disk-volume> -archived-<YYYY-mm-DDTHH:MM:SS>There are duplicated images across volumes. Simultaneous evacuations may try to duplicate different copies of the same image, leading to conflicts and job failures.
