NetBackup™ for Hyper-V Administrator's Guide

Use the Query builder in Advanced mode

The Query builder's Advanced mode provides more flexibility in crafting rules for virtual machine selection, including the use of parentheses for grouping.

To use the Query builder in Advanced mode

  1. Open the NetBackup web UI.
  2. On the left, select Protection > Policies.
  3. Create a Hyper-V policy and specify a Hyper-V server.

For assistance, you can refer to the first few steps of the following procedure:

See Create a Hyper-V policy for automatic virtual machine selection.

  4. Select the Clients tab.
  5. Select the option Select automatically through Hyper-V Intelligent Policy query.
  6. Locate Query builder and select the Advanced mode tab.
  7. You can use the Query builder fields to add query rules. You can also type in rules manually.

    For example:

    Displayname Contains "vm"

  8. To insert a rule between existing rules, place the cursor where you want the new rule to start and type it in.

When you create a rule with the fields, it appears at the end of the query. You can cut and paste it to a different position.

  9. To establish the proper order of evaluation in compound queries, use parentheses to group rules as needed. Compound queries contain two or more rules, joined by AND, AND NOT, OR, or OR NOT.

More information is available on the use of parentheses and on the order of precedence.

See AND vs. OR in queries.

See Order of operations in queries (precedence rules).

    See Parentheses in compound queries.
