Application protection options (VMware)
To enable file-level recovery of database data that resides in the virtual machine, select from the following options. These options apply to full backups of the virtual machine; they do not apply to incremental backups.
To configure VMware backups of database data, refer to the appropriate NetBackup database agent guide.
Table: Application protection options
Database option | Description |
|---|---|
Microsoft Exchange Server | This option enables recovery of the Exchange databases or mailbox messages from the virtual machine backups. If this option is disabled, you can recover the entire virtual machine from the backup, but you cannot recover the databases or mailbox messages individually. To use the option, you must enable the option. If you choose to exclude disks on the Exclude disks tab, ensure that the disks do not contain Exchange Server data. For more information, refer to the NetBackup for Exchange Server Administrator's Guide. |
Truncate logs | For Exchange, this option truncates the transaction logs when the snapshot of the virtual machine is complete. Truncating the logs frees up disk space in the virtual machine. Note: To use this option, install the Veritas VSS Provider on the virtual machine. For instructions on how to install this provider, refer to the NetBackup for Exchange Server Administrator's Guide. If you do not select , the logs are not truncated. |
Microsoft SQL Server | This option enables recovery of individual files from SQL Server data in the virtual machine backup. If this option is disabled, you can recover the entire virtual machine from the backup, but you cannot recover the SQL Server files individually. To use the option, you must enable the option. If you choose to exclude disks on the Exclude disks tab, ensure that the disks do not contain SQL Server data. For more information, refer to the NetBackup for SQL Server Administrator's Guide. |
Truncate logs | For SQL Server, this option truncates the transaction logs when the backup occurs. Truncating the logs frees up disk space in the virtual machine. Note: To use this option, install the Veritas VSS Provider on the virtual machine. For instructions on how to install this provider, refer to the NetBackup for SQL Server Administrator's Guide. If you do not select , the logs are not truncated. |
Enable T-SQL snapshots | For SQL Server, NetBackup creates a full SQL Server backup (not copy-only) that can be used as a basis for SQL Server incremental and transaction log backups. T-SQL snapshots were added with SQL Server 2022 and are strongly recommended for systems with SQL Server 2022 or later. This type of snapshot is not supported with SQL Server 2019 and earlier. |
Microsoft SharePoint | This option enables recovery of SharePoint objects from the virtual machine backup. If this option is disabled, you can recover the entire virtual machine from the backup, but you cannot recover the SharePoint objects individually. To use the option, you must enable the option. If you choose to exclude disks on the Exclude disks tab, ensure that the disks do not contain SharePoint Server data. For more information, refer to the NetBackup for SharePoint Server Administrator's Guide. |
