To connect the new Expansion shelf

1. Verify that all compute nodes, the Primary shelf, and the existing Expansion shelf are off and that the power cords are unplugged.

   Do not remove the cables between the compute nodes and the Primary shelf.

2. Identify the single SAS3 port on the left side of each controller module in the Primary shelf.
   
3. Identify ports A and C in each I/O module in the Expansion shelf. Port B is not available for use.
   
4. IMPORTANT: Note the correct orientation of the blue tab on the ends of the SAS3 cables. The blue tab must face down in the ports that connect the storage shelves.
   

   For the SAS3 cables in the Primary shelf that connect to the compute nodes the blue tabs must face up.

   
5. Unplug the cable on the Primary shelf right I/O module where it connects to port A on the Expansion shelf right I/O module.

   Do not unplug the cable from the Primary shelf itself.

   
6. Connect the unplugged end of the cable to SAS port A in the right-hand I/O module of the new Expansion Shelf.
   
   
7. Obtain the two SAS3 cables that shipped with the new Expansion shelf.
8. Attach the end of one cable to SAS port C in the left-hand I/O module of the existing Expansion shelf.

   Attach the other end of the cable to SAS port A in the left-hand I/O module of the new Expansion shelf.

   
   
9. Attach one end of the second cable to SAS port A in the right-hand I/O module of the existing Expansion shelf.

   Attach the other end of the cable to SAS port C in the right-hand I/O module of the new Expansion shelf.

   
10. Verify the final cable configuration.
    
11. Connect the power cords of all devices as described in this section.

12. Turn on the devices in the proper sequence as described in this section.
